Search For Two Boys Lost At Sea Still On Thanks To GoFundMe Campaign

Aug 3, 2015

Days after officials ceased their search for two boys lost at sea, the families of missing teen boaters Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen continue looking for them, thanks largely to a successful GoFundMe campaign

Loved ones have raised over $400,000 so far, on the firm belief alone that the pair of 14-year-old “salty dog kids,” who vanished last month on a daytrip aboard their 19-foot motorboat, are clinging to life somewhere in the vast Atlantic ocean.

Florida authorities, however, canned their own search efforts last Friday evening, at that time offering “condolences” to the Cohen and Stephanos clans, since the reasonable window of “survivability” had just slammed shut on the two young men.

Humans lost at sea have survived for far longer than a week, of course, even in shark infested waters; but all such miraculous survival accounts involved being stranded on either a boat or a raft.

In this case, sadly, the missing teens’ vessel has already been found capsized -- with only one lifejacket taken from it -- and the chances of either of the boys lost at sea still being alive therefore are fairly slim.

Nevertheless, history shows us that much has been accomplished on a single dim hope. So, obviously, much can be accomplished again...
