Pro Islamic Hackers Takedown Philly Dot Gov Site

May 21, 2015

Pro Islamic hackers claimed credit for taking down the Philadelphia City Council’s website yesterday, just one morning after a sweeping election potentially altered the council’s political complexion.

"According to our service provider, PHLCouncil.com was hacked and replaced with new content at 7:03 a.m. today," council spokeswoman Jane Roh conceded on Wednesday. "Our service provider was temporarily locked out of the website, but was able to get back in and delete the hacked page at 9:09 a.m."

That *new content* Roh alluded to was of course anti-American in nature and similar to other messages the militant cyber group Cyb3r Command0s has posted on a number of hacked U.S. government and corporate websites.

That growing list now includes state parks, communications firms, public school systems, and governmental agencies just like Philly dot gov’s city council site, which someone with the handle of “H1d3n Root” purports to have debilitated for the Command0s.

But "no City information that would be deemed sensitive was ever compromised or accessed," the council’s spokeswoman rather incredibly added.

The Philadelphia City Council’s website is hosted by BlueHost, which boasts being "the world's largest providers of cloud-based online solutions."

They haven’t said though what *solutions* --  if any -- they’ll now be offering their municipal client in order to permanently patch the web vulnerability that allowed for this week’s penetration by pro Islamic hackers.
