Parents of Brock Guzman, the 8-year-old who was inadvertently abducted this week when the vehicle he slept in got carjacked, say they intend to file a complaint against the Fairfield Police Department for mistreatment.
The boy was later found safe in the abandoned Toyota and the Amber Alert for him deactivated. But, in the interim, his worried mom and dad -- Suzanne and Paul Guzman -- were apparently manhandled and treated like “criminals” by cops convinced they were somehow the culprits.
In fact, Mr. Guzman has produced a disturbing cell phone video of Fairfield California police knocking his spouse down and handcuffing her, ostensibly because she was acting “hysterical.”
Investigators have countered that the attack was warranted because Suzanne Guzman wouldn’t allow a responding officer to enter the Guzman residence. Although the reason she gave for denying him access indicates she was alone there at the time and didn’t feel safe.
"I'm not letting you come in my house, especially when my husband's not here either, OK?" she can be heard stating on the officer’s body-cam recording of the confrontation.
When her husband returned shortly thereafter, both Guzmans were arrested and transported to the police station.
Suzanne Guzman’s caution, however, should be commended -- statistically, males in uniform commit the highest percent of sexual assaults, an alarming stat which has prompted many rape counselors and women’s advocates to advise that females never permit uniformed men to enter their homes.
Like it or not, that sensible crime-prevention tip also pertains to lawmen on legitimate business.
