Polish authorities have sealed off the area where a Nazi gold train was allegedly discovered by a pair of treasure hunters pursuing a deathbed confession.
As of this week, looters, mystery and flames surround the thus-far unconfirmed WWII relic that is purportedly located near a railway line still actively being used, police state.
The winding, rocky stretch of track thereby poses substantial “danger” to curious tourists and locals who have descended upon the site en masse in a bid to see the fabled train for themselves and perhaps pinch some of its booty.
“A few hectares [acres] of land are now being secured” a government spokesman confirmed yesterday. “People have been barred from the woods”
The legendary trainload of gold and other valuables was rumored to have been hidden by the Third Reich in the spring of 1945, as Adolph Hitler’s reign of terror was collapsing.
Two men -- a German and a Pole -- claimed via their attorneys to have finally discovered the hidden transport this year, setting off a veritable gold-rush that now has Polish officials concerned someone is going to get hurt.
Late yesterday, investigators also reported that the suspected area was suddenly ablaze, adding, rather incredibly, that they don’t believe the wildfire was an act of arson.
In the meantime, they too continue combing the railways between Walbrzych and Wroclaw Poland in order to verify the existence of the Nazi gold train; but are reporting that, so far, their metal detectors and other methods have unearthed only bits of “rusted metal.”
