Three young Americans who overpowered a heavily armed gunman on a train in northern France yesterday are being hailed as heroes this weekend for their swift takedown of the would-be mass murderer.
Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos didn’t hesitate when they saw the 26-year-old Islamic suspect board the high-speed train with an AK47, a handgun, and other weaponry, and open fire on passengers:
The brave trio rushed the madman, tackled him to the floor, put him in a chokehold, and pounded him senseless.
That split-second response to a potential public shooting is the exact opposite of how shooters hope their unarmed victims will react -- to flee or freeze in fear -- and precisely why there weren’t any fatalities in Friday’s incident, although two people were seriously wounded.
The murderous Moroccan bent on executing a bloodbath on a crowded train bound for Paris last night is also a known extremist and reportedly on the terrorist watch-lists of France, Belgium and Spain.
Thanks to Messrs. Stone, Sadler and Skarlatos, though, he’s now in police custody where undoubtedly he’ll be remaining for a long, long time.
(Praise Allah.)
