Pennsylvania authorities have finally arrested two men for the cold case rape and strangulation of a teenage girl over 30 years ago.
The case of 14-year-old Barbara Rowan from Bensalem PA had been reopened in 2002, but it wasn’t until recently that forensic breakthroughs were made implicating George Shaw and Robert Sanders in her brutal sex assault and slaying.
The suspects were separately taken into custody this week -- Sanders in Pennsylvania and Shaw in Florida -- and each was charged in Rowan’s kidnapping, rape and murder.
In 1984, Barbara Rowan sometimes babysat the toddler of one of her meth-abusing killers, making her an easy target for Shaw and his codefendant to victimize.
According to the criminal complaint, after the pair had bound, assaulted and strangled the girl, they drove her body to another remote area. Then “they removed the body from the trunk and carried her into the brush on the right passenger side of the vehicle and placed her on the ground.”
A man searching in the field for his lost dog stumbled upon Rowan’s decomposing corpse, two weeks after she had been reported missing by her family.
