Questions for Former D.A. Alex Hunter
Crime Magazine has authorized reporter Ryan
Ross to tell former Boulder D.A. Alex Hunter that it will post verbatim and in
their entirety his answers to 12 questions about the Ramsey case. The offer was
extended to Hunter in writing in a letter dated April 4. To date, Hunter has not
responded. But the offer is open-ended. We will publish his answers anytime he provides them.
Our questions follow.

QUESTIONS
1). Did JonBenet more likely die as the result of a murder
or an accident followed by a cover-up?
2). How do you rate the likelihood of an intruder?
3). Given the fiber evidence connecting the Ramseys to the
paint tray, brush and ligature,
and the fiber evidence connecting John Ramsey to the fibers found in JonBenet's
"crotch area," and in the underpants she was wearing when her body was
discovered, did you consider filing cover-up charges such as
false statement or tampering with evidence? If not, why not? And if so, what did
you conclude?
4). Did any representative of the Ramsey family suggest to
you, or to your knowledge to a member of your staff, that JonBenet had died as
the result of an accident?
5). What do you think of your successor’s response to the
letter she received last year from Mr. Wood indicating that the Ramseys were
considering a lawsuit if they were not publicly cleared?
6). Given that neither of the two investigators on the
staff of the Boulder DA are trained as homicide investigators, isn’t it now
difficult for your successor to pursue any further investigation that may be
necessary? Wouldn’t the case be better off in the hands of a special prosecutor
with access to the requisite investigate resources?
7). What is the statute of limitations for filing
misdemeanor charges stemming from what happened to JonBenet?
8). Who is responsible for the long-term sexual abuse
pathologists say JonBenet had been subjected to?
9). Did the director of social services for Boulder County
solicit your advice on whether to remove Burke from the Ramsey home in the days
after the death of JonBenet? What did she tell you about the judgment of social
services personnel on this question? And what guidance or advice did you
provide?
10). Were the samples of Patsy’s handwriting that she
wrote left-handed submitted to any of the handwriting experts you or the Boulder
police consulted? If not, why not? And if so, what was their conclusion?
11). Have you listened to the 911 tape, and if so, what is
your conclusion about whether Burke’s and John Ramsey’s voices are heard on the
tape and what do they say? If you believe they are heard on the tape, what
conclusions did you draw about what the enhanced version of the tape revealed?
12). Where do you think the case should go from here?
